Q: I'm beggining Lacrosse this year and it doesnt start until spring so i have a lot of time to practice. What training should i do to be fit enough for it?
A: cardio is a must so practice on your endurance, as well as your stop and go speed which will help with your dekes. Do this by going for runs, but rather than just jogging your whole way mix it up and sprint for a short distance. I used to rotate from a jog to a run to a walk after passing each telephone pole. I dunno if you have your gear yet, but if you have your stick I would practice with it as much as possible. Try finding a wall that you can bounce the ball against to get a feel for your stick and so that you get used to the motions of passing and shooting. It is important to develop strength to get a harder shot; but without the proper form you will not have much of a gain. I would suggest just practice going through the motion of passing both stationary and on the move, with repetition strength will come. What I used to do was carry my stick with me everywhere so that I would get used to cradling. Have fun out there. Like most things at first it feels awkward but like riding a bike with repetition you eventually do it without even thinking about it.
