What are some good brands/types of clothing to wear to keep warm in winter?

Q: I have heard of Under Armour but don't really know of anyother types of brands. I am looking for the same type of under clothing that under armour has, so basically thin clothing but that is also warm. Thanks.

A: Patagonia makes several types of long underwear and other base layers like Capilene. Eastern Mountain Sports has Techwick in several thicknesses. I use it all year long and have lost track of how many different shirts, boxers, pants, etc. I own that are Teckwick. I also have some Smartwool shirts. These are also excellent. All of this stuff is about the same price as Under Armor, but you can get 30% off the Techwick at EMS when you buy 3 or more. There's this other stuff called Holofiber. It's not as popular as some of the other stuff but I have one shirt and one pair of pants. The stuff is warm but the pants didn't hold up. The shirt was made of a thicker weave and ROCKS! I wear it all the time in winter. Then you've got stuff like polypropylene, silk, and cotton. Cotton sucks. It just stays wet. Silk wicks moisture away but doesn't insulate well, the polypro doesn't wick as well as silk, but the weave does give some better insulation. There are a lot of brands that use all of these materials. Another option is fleece. It's usually intended to be a mid-layer, but 90% of the time I spend outside in the winter I wear Techwick boxers, Fleece pants, and Gore-Tex snowpants. Just a few options. There are lots more.
