Q: I know how to swim, and have for many years. The thing is, it seems like I can't get under water at all. If I try to go under totally, I can't get off the surface. It's like i'm too buoyant or something. I try exhaling all the air from my lungs and diving for the bottom, but I stay at the top, kicking and thrashing towards the bottom of the pool but going nowhere. Why the heck is this happening? I don't see others with this issue. Do others have this issue? It comes up when my son will ask me to swim underwater and pop up to play shark with him or something, and i'm the only one in my family who can't submerge themselves. I just pop right back to the top of the water!
A: Some people are more buoyant than others. That is why scuba divers wear a weight belt. Weight can be added or subtracted depending on the person.
