Q: I am good at jumping high enough for blocking but not exactly good with timing. I also need improvement as for when I do jump at the appropriate time the ball goes through my fingers. How do I make a succesfull block?
A: 1. Don't jump when the hitter is jumping you will be jumping way to early. 2. Watch the hitters arm, it will tell you a lot. How hard/soft, direction, tip or hit. Depending on the speed of the hit you will have to jump a little sooner or a little later. Practice. Force yourself to jump a little early if that doesn't work force yourself to wait a little. Don't be afraid to work with a timing that is uncomfortable. All the while you practicing make it a conscious effort. Know what your changing, and what is staying the same. The biggest aspect of blocking is penetration of the net. Make sure your hands look like micky mouse ears and penetrate the net with your hands. Good Luck
