Former fourth racket of the world Jelena Dokic commented on a video in which a man beat a young girl on a tennis court.
Five years ago, Dokic released an autobiography in which she talked about the abuse of her father.
It is very difficult to talk about this topic. It hurt me a lot. As a person who has gone through this, it was painful for me to watch. I know what it`s like.
I myself experienced similar abuse: I was kicked to the point of passing out a week before the US Open, when I was 16 years old. And this was not the only case.
Unfortunately, what happens behind closed doors is even worse. There is no doubt about this.
Unfortunately, the situation had to go so far and get on such a long video for us to see what it really looks like. But now we really need to act.
That`s what I was talking about when I told my story. What happens is that I`m not the first and not the last, but the point is how we deal with it and do we do enough.
Such is the reality. Unfortunately, this is the unsightly side of sports and tennis. And we need to talk about it. I think that this is not being talked about enough, and now the question arises what steps are being taken.
Why is this happening? The system is clearly not working. Something is missing.
